American checks

Hello Expats, I went today to open a new bank account with Banco Pichincha, I asked the personal banker if they accept American checks to be deposited to the same person’s account. The answer was yes and it will take one month to clear the check. The fees for a deposited check of amount of $4000 would be $250 dollars.

Are there any expats who heard that before or were able to deposit American checks recently paying high fees?

I did ,I actually had with me translator from attorney Sara chaca and it was free of charge. I wanted to deposit American checks instead doing international wire transfer. $250 fees for deposit and it can be less depend on how much the deposit. but I won't even pay $20... 0 0

I use Banco Pinchincha and deposit personal checks from a US account with a small charge for up to $5000. It does take a while usually up to 2 weeks sometimes more. 0 0

I seem to be missing some crucial information because I can't understand why people don't get accounts here and then use the ATM (FREE) to make withdrawals AND pay bills online. Is it cash flow? For me, I have accounts with local cooperatives, as well as with Banco Guayaquil (BG).... 0 0

That's is what is known as the Gringo price. Outrageous. I am sure Pinchincha has has a silver lining. But so far I everything I hear is bad. I guess they survived the monetary disaster and that is why older Ecuadorans with money use them. 0 0

Are you sure he didn't mean/say $2.50? We use Banco Guayaquil, it does take a while to clear and the charge is $2.50. 0 0

I was told literally $250 fees for deposit American check of $4000,and the fees will be less if check was less then $4000 .very disappointing 😞 0 0

Wow, I'm sure you were shocked, to say the least. Other than suggesting switching to BG, which has a $2.50 fee for deposited checks from the states, I would suggest to ask another branch, another day. I've lived here for a couple of years, and it seems to be a... 0 0
