As of Friday, Feb 11, 2022, Ecuador is allowing unvaccinated travelers to enter the country with a negative PCR test within 72 hours. Strangely, this change doesn’t seem to be getting a lot of attention, and not all websites have been updated yet. Nevertheless, it was announced in El Universo, the UIO twitter account, and the US EC embassy and several EC government websites confirm it.
What I have not been able to find out is if it is a requirement to be vaccinated for Domestic/National flights within Ecuador? The reason I ask is that I have some unvaccinated family members who will be flying in to Quito, and I’d like to know if it’s possible for them to fly domestically from Quito to Cuenca. If they will not be permitted to fly, we’ll have to drive, which would be very unfortunate. LATAM is the carrier we typically use.
Does anyone have any information on this? Will they let you enter the Quito airport with just a boarding card if your destination is Cuenca? Will they let you enter the Cuenca airport with just a boarding card if your destination is Quito? I’ve tried contacting LATAM but ended up in an endless loop with their chat and WhatsApp bot and their website has not been updated since before the 2/11 change.
I understand that there are some extremely passionate feelings about mandatory vaccination, and I respect your feelings, whatever they may be. Seriously, pro-vax, anti-mandate, anti-vax, whatever you are, I respect your point of view. I’m simply not interested in debating the morality or legality or appropriateness of anything related to the vaccine controversy.
I really just need some solid, practical advice as to whether or not a person can fly domestically in Ecuador today in February 2022 if they are unvaccinated. It would seem very strange if they’d let tourists travel to the country unvaccinated but prevent them from taking any connecting flights from their point of origin, but nothing would surprise me at this point. If you have any direct information on this topic, I’d be very grateful if you would please share it.
Thanks very much, in advance,
