A few questions from a newbie

Hello everyone:

Do you suggest having a US number for banking purposes? Although I have Traveling Mailbox, how do you get credit cards through the mail? I am still waiting, over a month to receive a letter, registered mail, from the US.

Your answers are always helpful.

Have you already moved here? If so Google Voice is tough or impossible to set up. As far as mail I use Escapee's as they offer a legal domicile in 0 tax states. However they do have some drawbacks. Let me know if you want further info. 0 0

I use Google Voice and can receive texts as well as phone calls. They have an app and I use it to call the US and Canada free of charge. My calls to Europe cost me 1 cent per minute. I have been using it for about 15 years now... Read more 0 0

I use a skype number to call my bank in Hawaii. I had ny card compromised and $2500 rang up in fradulent charges. They sent a new card directly here to my Cuenca address using DHL. It got here iin 4 days or so. Also they removed the fraud charges. 0 0

I have Traveling Mailboxes also. They offer FedEx to Ecuador for around $27. I send it to the office near the airport with my name on it. I track it until it’s checked into the Cuenca office. Then I go to pick it up, show my ID and I’m done.... Read more 0 0

Google voice number (includes texts) for banking and other automated verification purposes. WhatsApp here is used by everyone, you can use it for free calling/texting/video calls. I have a virtual mailbox that shows a US address for me, in addition to my US phone number. I use OOMA for that phone. I use Dani Muñoz gor shipping here from the States. Their charge per Lb. is just under $7.00. I haven't needed to receive a credit... 0 0

The most popular that we are our friends use are: AP Shipping, USA Valet, and Expat Envoy. Going to their websites will explain the processes and cost. They are DEFINITELY less expensive than DHL or shipping here via customs. 0 0

This has been discussed before. The technical issue is that financial service companies use a short code text messaging system. Voice over IP (VOIP) telephone services like MagicJack, cannot receive texts sent from these systems. Contact BofA. Many large US banks, like my former bank, will send texts to non-US... 0 0

I use Tello, cost me 6 bucks a month and can receive phone and text here only on WIFI. When I return to the USA I jack up my data there and pay about 10 bucks a month. They use T Mobile. They are great and the service works very... 0 0
