I get weekly massages from Elsa. I had leg pain from contracted muscles and some finger numbness due to herniated disks. It has all disappeared since we began our sessions. Elsa comes to my home, so I can really relax and get all the benefits from her magnificent work. She is also a nurse, so she gives me advice that goes beyond most masseuses.
She charges $50 for 90 minutes.
I recommend Elsa very highly. Her number is 593 098 177 4961.
A few weeks ago I published an ad for assistance with travel costs for Alex, the street vendor who works on the corner of Ordoñez Lasso and Las Americas as you walk up to Supermaxi Las Americas. Alex will be leaving for Ibarra early on Monday morning and then will go on to Venezuela to visit his elderly parents and have some necessary medical issues resolved. In Ibarra, there is a foundation that will prepare a new prosthesis for him. This will require several fittings to correct the painful condition he has been walking in with the old prosthesis.
Alex humbly requested that I extend his thanks all who have helped him in the past, buying little things on the street or donating to his needs. He is overwhelmed by the generosity of the Americans who have come to his aid. With tears in his eyes, he begged me to thank you all and special thanks to the lady who will care for his dog in his absence, others who donated some nice suitcases, and some who gave most generously towards his needs. If anyone else is so moved to contribute a bit to the travel, medical expenses and hotel expenses as he travels to Ibarra and on to Venezuela, he would be extremely grateful. But he is leaving early Monday morning so will only be at his post until this weekend.
Here is his original request:
He says, ” With humility, I kindly ask for financial help to travel to Venezuela in February to reunite with my parents. Any contribution will be used for travel tickets and basic expenses. I sincerely thank you for all the support and kindness received in 2025. Thank you for your help.”

As a new year begins, we would like to take a moment to thank you for being part of the wider Izhcayluma family.
Many of you have chosen Ecuador not only as a travel destination, but as a place to live and make your new home. We are very grateful that Izhcayluma is one of your favorite vacation destinations close to Cuenca, a small paradise to slow down, reflect, and reconnect with what truly matters. We see Izhcayluma not merely as an eco-resort, but as a quiet refuge in these restless times: a place to pause in nature, relax, and enjoy simple human presence filled with laughter and joy.
Over the past year, we have been grateful to welcome members of the Expat community from Cuenca and beyond….some for short stays, others for longer visits and most of you returning again and again. Your appreciation for simplicity, sustainability, and genuine connection resonates deeply with the spirit in which Izhcayluma was created over 25 years ago and has been lovingly maintained under the same management ever since.
In the year ahead, we remain committed to:
– preserving this land and its biodiversity, a sanctuary for wildlife and humans alike – offering a calm, respectful space free from noise and excess – supporting practices that nourish body and mind – maintaining affordability and authenticity over luxury or spectacle – keeping it personal……you know….old school
Whether you visit us for a few days of rest, pamper yourself at our Tropical Garden SPA, a yoga retreat, or simply to enjoy the view and the birds at sunrise, you are always welcome here.
We wish you a grounded, clear, and healthy New Year.

We’ll see you again on January 17 (the third Saturday of the month) before a three-week wait until the first Saturday of February. You definitely won’t want to miss that one!

We’ll be back in the new year – on Saturday, January 3. You’ll have exhausted all your treats and may need a gift for someone who was especially kind during the holidays so plan on coming out. We look forward to seeing you in 2026!
Saturday was a gorgeous day for our vendors and for our shoppers. Thanks for coming out! We’ll see you again on December 20 for the last fair of the year. Our vendors will pull out all the stops, so be sure it’s on your calendar!

The entire Sabatino’s family thanks you for coming out to celebrate Thanksgiving with us. Your support means children and families in El Campo will have a Christmas to remember. Gifts and treats will be delivered on Monday, December 15.
If you’d like to help stuff bags and wrap gifts, come to the restaurant at 10 AM on Sunday, December 14. As we do every year, we’ll post on our Facebook page photos of the smiling faces for which you have made Christmas very special.
Thanksgiving wasn’t a part of my life until my adult years as Ecuador does not celebrate this holiday, I first learned of it through TV, comments from online friends and what I could read in young reader novels. As I grew up, I found that I trully value many things about the cultures from other places and one of my favorite things I added into my life was the practice of being grateful around thanksgiving. At the end of the day, isn’t being grateful a fundamental part of our human experience?
Many of you may not know me, but in general the expat community in Cuenca has some of the most interesting, wonderful, honest, caring people one could hope to meet. I’m so very grateful to all of you for the kindness, friendship and for the generousity you share every day to make this community stronger; sharing in culture, helping others navigate the cultural shock of being here.
I’m grateful that even in this little country of us, we can experience international cultural exchanges. I’m grateful for the little bits of advice that improve my already flourishing vocabulary. I’m grateful this exists. I’m grateful for GringoPost, and I’m hoping I get to have this many things to be grateful for next year as well.
Thanks to International Christian Community. What a great place to be for Thanksgiving and all year long. Warm, loving, caring, generous people from around the world. And, to members and guests who were in my audience on Thanksgiving Eve.
Thanks for coming out on Saturday! We will be back again in three weeks on Saturday, December 6.
If you don’t already have plans for Thanksgiving, make reservations at our host location–Sabatino’s Garden Restaurant. All proceeds go toward making Christmas dreams come true for kids and elderly in a community out in El Campo. Give thanks and make a difference all at the same time.

We are surely missing our daily walks with Carla! Since we have moved far away, my sweetie cannot anticipate her coming by waiting happily at the door. But for two years, she did just that. Carla hardly ever missed a day, or was late, and she would let us know, ahead of time.
Not only was she reliable, responsible, and caring, but she was such a pleasant mixture of firm consistency, and of kindness to Mila. She knew dogs, and had often taken Mila to her country home when circumstances required it. I didn’t worry about Mila. Even though she can be quite stubborn, Carla could deal with her “huskiness!”
Carla is positive, generous, bilingual, and is loved by all of her dogs.
If you need such a person in your life, contact Carla, dog walker extraordinaire!

I just wanted to say thank you to the CuencaHighLife team for supporting creators and advertisements even the ones that have been censored in other platforms. Special mention to Rebeca Mendoza, she is a nice and friendly woman who has been always answering messages and providing valuable information even for the ads that I have paid no one penny for them. This speaks volumes about this business that take their decisions with responsibility and respect for creators and readers.
I am writing this post in gratitude to this great community that allows products like ours—organic honey—to be so well received. As owners who are passionate about nature and our bees, we want to thank each and every one of you; thank you for your curiosity and trust.
We are excited for you to learn more about our work, our brand, and, of course, our bees.
I want to express my sincere appreciation for your wonderful pet store in Cuenca. Your excellent selection of food and accessories makes shopping here a delight. I also love the monthly discounts—they’re a great bonus!
Monica, your kindness and expertise, along with Karen’s helpful support, make every visit enjoyable. I truly value how you go the extra mile—if an item isn’t in stock, you find it for me. That level of service is rare and deeply appreciated.
I also highly recommend your pet grooming services. Your dedication sets Pet Tiere apart as one of the best pet stores in Cuenca.
Located at Edificio Santa María Local 2, Remigio Tamariz Crespo 3-24, your store is a true gem. I proudly encourage fellow pet owners to support your business.
Thanks for a fabulous day on Saturday. The restaurant was busy, and our vendors enjoyed seeing all of the smiling shoppers. We’ll do it again on October 18–the third Saturday of the month.
Until then, go shop our sister feria at Common Grounds this coming Saturday.
See you soon!

It was great to see all of our shoppers on Saturday. Thank you for coming out!
We’ll see you again on the first Saturday of October–October 4. We’re already booked with more than 40 vendors–overbooked, actually. We’ll let you know who they are soon or check out our Facebook event if you can’t wait.
We wanted to let you know that Solano Bistro will be closed for the next two weeks. This was a difficult decision, but it’s a necessary step to give us time for inventory, reorganization, and planning.
The current economic situation has affected us, as I believe it has affected many other restaurants. We need this time to regroup and find a way to serve you better in the future.
Starting Wednesday to Sunday of next week, Luis and Debby will begin preparing food for delivery. If you are interested in our delivery service, please send us an email to our address.
We appreciate your continued support and look forward to welcoming you back soon.
I want to say thanks to and give my recommendation for María Peñafiel. Maria is a very experienced, friendly, and pleasant attorney and translator who helped me immensely recently with some medical appointments at Hospital del Rio, and also in navigating my insurance company requirements and protocol. She got the answers that I tried to and couldn’t. I could never have gotten through this without Maria’s help.
Maria is fluent in English, Spanish, German, and Italian, so for any of you who speak any of these languages and need some assistance, please give Maria a call.

Thank you to all who attended Cuenca Car Share’s Saturday at the movies event on August 30. Cuenca Foundation extends their thanks for your support, too.
In my effort to acknowledge the many people who helped make my recent performance a success, I failed to acknowledge “the wind beneath my wings”. My darling Kate Marin, who has taken my life and performances to a new level. Who helped me go from meager efforts at marketing to World Class Marketing. Who is there as previewer of new effects, gentle critic of performances, audience manager of donations, and correlator of charity interactions.
Thanks so much to everyone who came through Gran Feria Sabatino’s. The weather wasn’t great on Saturday, but you didn’t want to miss out. There was a steady stream of people, and our vendors were thrilled with the turnout.
We’ll see you again in three weeks on the first Saturday in September–that’s September 6. Until then, visit our friends at Common Grounds for their feria this coming Saturday, August 23.
Remember: Sabatino’s on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays and Common Grounds on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays.

Today we pause to send you a huge thank you. Over the past months, we’ve experienced two campaigns filled with heart, effort, and transformation.
AMA – Accompanying with love and care
July was dedicated to AMA Program, your support provided emotional, psychological, and community care to women and families needing to feel heard and supported.
Thanks to you:
More women will access counseling and guidance. Networks of resilience and support grew stronger. Hope was born in every embrace and every kind word.
Your generosity allows AMA to remain a shelter of love and strength.
Women Creators – Bread that nourishes lives
On May your collaboration brought the community bakery project to life, where women learn, work, and build economic independence.
Thanks to you: Women were trained in entrepreneurship and skills. The bakery became a space of dignity and union. Each loaf of bread turned into independence and hope.Your support lit the ovens and the dreams of many families.
Thank you for walking with us through each campaign. Your hands joined ours to create support, dignity, and real opportunities for women and entire communities.
Thanks again for inviting me to share my mentalism gifts with the 80 people who gathered at the Balzay campus for the 65th Anniversary of the Language School last Friday. Congratulations on the many accomplishments in multiple languages over the years.
I have known the manicurist, Viktoria, for 4 years and have never been disappointed with the quality of her work. Always friendly, smiling, with good sense of humor, she creates an atmosphere of coziness and comfort. Viktoria has never raised the price for her work, although she has purchased new modern equipment and custom-made furniture. Clients even come to her from Paute and Chordeleg.
Viktoria recently opened a new office in the Hotel Vargas, Av. Solano, not far from the Pichincha Bank and I happily recommend her to anyone who appreciates the high quality of service and European products that Viktoria uses.
Even with Saturday’s occasional rain, you shoppers showed up! The downpour around 1:30 shut us down a little early, but so many of you had already made it a great day for lots of our vendors. Our new participants couldn’t wait to confirm for the next one. Thank you!
Oh! And we’ll definitely have clam chowder as a special again soon since it sold out before noon.
Our next Gran Feria Sabatino’s will be on Saturday, August 2–the first Saturday of the month, and it’s already booked full. Until then, be sure to visit our sister feria this Saturday at Common Grounds. Take care and stay warm.

Finding a very good and affordable dentist here in Cuenca has been a life saver.
I want to thank Silvi Pinos for directing me to Dr. David. He was very comprehensive in his approach and did exactly what needed to be said and done. Thank you Dr. David.
