In Cuenca, Ecuador, young people on the streets, in alleyways, and at the backs of music clubs where they hang out, are signaling each other using their cellphones – in real time – about Star Singer sightings and “flash moment” microphone appearances.
For example, last Thursday night at Café Wunderbar Star Singer was at the microphone singing his new song, “Depopulation / Reshape a Nation”. That is when a young guy, who was sitting next to the stage listening to the lyrics of that song grabbed his iPhone. Wasting not even a second, he blasted out a text message to his friends telling them that they should come to Wunderbar right away! . . . that they will be astonished at hearing and seeing a performer who actually has the bravado to say the things he says about what is going on in the world currently. In less than one minute, as if appearing right out of Aladdin’s lamp, a bevy of smiling enthusiastic young fellows, smiling ear to ear, were gathered in the restaurant music club’s vestibule cheering Star Singer on. They could hardly believe their ears as to what Star Singer was singing!
“I don’t know. Maybe it’s a thing… a trend or something. I was on my way home the night I sang at Café Wunderbar and a bunch of young folk were hangin’ out under a street lamp. They all gave me the warmest, happiest greeting when I walked past them on the sidewalk. One young gal yelled out: Well, it’s the amazing Star Singer! Hey! I’m glad people like my songs of freedom and human dignity!, says, Star Singer.
