Join us Saturday, Sept 7th, to celebrate Ecuadorian and expat authors and writers, and also get an overview of the needs for more literacy development in Ecuador. We’ll kick off the event with stories about literacy as it relates to Hogar de Esperanza’s work with indigenous peoples and the general population.
Carolina’s Book Store’s owner will give a brief presentation about how she came to her love of books and ultimately owning a book store here in Cuenca.
Dr. Ivan Petrof, a professor at the University of Cuenca, will give a brief talk about his experience teaching literature and spotlight some of the renowned Ecuadorian writers. We will also have several authors with us to talk about their journey from idea to published works, including, Alexander Angamarca, a native Ecuadorian whose works have been celebrated worldwide.
Susan MacBryde, whose book Jaguar Dreams, has been well received and is the story of an Ecuadorian tribe, and how they are suddenly thrust into dealing with disaster as their lives and very existence are threatened by Oil spills. Frances Hogg will join us with a brief discussion of her writers group and the various topics, interests and contributions of the members of her local writers group here in Cuenca.
Of course, there will be a fun food inclusion with our Cuenca High Tea, which will feature our edition of British High Tea, (with coffee, wine, and soft drinks available for those of us who prefer options to tea). Cuarteto Andino will also be performing.
The Chase the Ace game had no winners so the pot is growing and as an added bonus we will have a drawing for items for our gift table. With the holidays getting closer, you can also pick up some great gifts hand made by the Ladies Craft Group.
