Did you find a good Skype replacement service?

Used Skype to call 800 numbers in the US for free from EC to deal with credit cards, banks and government agencies and need to find a reliable replacement.

A service that also has reasonable rates to call other countries outside the US and EC.

• What is your experience with Google Voice?

• Ease of use?

• Has free calls to US 800 numbers service?

• Receiving texts for bank codes, etc.?

Any other option(s) you would recommend?

Emily: To be clear, Tello no longer allows activation from outside the US so it’s probably moot for you. But I thought the section on Google Voice’s free service in the linked article might work well for what you’re looking for. 0 0

I had Skype, but now I use the replacement "TEAMS". It works the same way. I make 800 calls and regular phone number calls as well. Finding the keypad is not intuitive, but on one dropdown menu, you will see "Skype keypad". Why it is hidden is anyone's guess. From... Read more 0 0

Update - If you're using the free version of Teams (without a Calling Plan), you can't dial phone numbers at all. and "Calling Plans" aren't availabe in Ecuador. You obviously had a Skype "credit" transfer 0 0

thanks Mark, I had skype credit but it was not transferred when skype switched to Teams so I can not make any calls. 0 0

If you had a Skype "credit" it transfers to Teams allegedly and gives you a Skype keypad. Is that what you did? 0 0

Good to know about Teams, I'll look at it again. From what I understand if you can get Text Now you can use that U.S. phone number to get Gooogle Voice. 0 0

For Google Voice, you can just open the website, https://voice.google.com But you need to apply for a number while actually being in the USA. A VPN won't do. If you have a Google Voice number already, you're set, use the website. If not, have a contact in the US obtain... 1 1

There’s an app called “Text Free” available on both iOS and Android. It isn’t exactly free but you can buy yearly plans that include a US phone number. I use it for all my bank codes and as a US contact # for folks without WhatsApp or Signal, etc 0 1
