Every morning, Doña Mercedes used to wake before the sun.
Not to bake — but to sort through discarded clothes.
She’d cut rags with aching hands, hoping to earn a few cents. Just enough for beans and rice.
She’s raised six grandchildren on her own — ever since her daughter suffered a stroke during childbirth.
Her world was survival.
She was strong. But unseen.
Until the day she stepped into a warm kitchen filled with flour, laughter — and other grandmothers who’d walked similar roads.
Now, her hands shape bread instead of rags. Her mornings rise with the scent of hope.
Her grandchildren call her La Panadera — the baker — and they say it with pride.
This is what our Grandmothers Baking for a Better Future program is about:
Not just bread.
But dignity.
Identity.
A second chance.
We’ve passed the halfway point — thanks to 27 incredible donors.
But we still need $1,275 to reach our goal:
An industrial oven that opens the door for more grandmothers like Mercedes.
If just 20 people give $60, we’ll get there.
And for every $250 we raise beyond our goal, another grandmother can be fully trained and equipped to rise.
200 are waiting.
We have less than 10 days to cross the finish line.
You can help open the oven doors.
You can be the reason another grandmother rises — today.

Because when one grandmother is seen,
a whole generation rises with her.
