Over the past few months, the VIP Home Healthcare team have noticed an increasing number of offers to provide in-home care here in Cuenca. Unfortunately, the COVID crisis and efforts to contain it have not been kind to many in our community. Unemployment is high and a one-off job in health-care seems like an attractive solution.
But health care, of course, is much different than a normal service-industry job. With over 25,000 hours of client care provided over the past four years, VIP has developed the expertise to know what it takes to provide quality in-home care here in Cuenca.
This then is the first in a series of five questions to ask when hiring an in-home health care provider.
Value or price? What is your health worth?
VIP understands that you can likely find an “in-home” caregiver who will charge very little and sometimes nothing at all (just room and board). A number of these providers will have the skills and integrity to provide an appropriate level of in-home client care—others absolutely will not! You will likely learn which is which, positive or negative, only after you have hired them. Nearly every week our nurses and EMT’s are called to work with local doctors and sometimes the police in an attempt to repair unnecessary damage and loss done in the name of in-home health care right here in Cuenca.
Many of you have run businesses so will have real-world understanding of the following statement from VIP: While our charges are reasonable, we carry the expenses of running a viable company year after year, meeting government requirements, and taking thoughtful, value-based care of both clients and our medical team, Sadly, this professionalism is not always present.
So, when health is involved, are you looking for the cheapest price or the best value? Having choices can be great, but choosing who to trust with your health is one of those all-important decisions that should be made on more than just price.
