We have another wonderful week here in La Guarida. Like always our movie projections on Tuesday and Wednesday and concerts on Thursdays. On Tuesday mornings, you can find Lolita and Narcisa with their wonderful organic produce, chicken and eggs. “Nostalgia for the Light” is the director Patricio Guzmán’s transfixing cinematic essay on the search for both our cosmic origins and disappeared political prisoners. An incredible Chilean masterpiece that engages us to take a journey that brings us throughout space, not only the cosmos but also the earth beneath our feet.
Wednesday 6:45 PM: The Florida Project
An American slice of life drama film directed by Sean Baker. A different look into the lives of others in The Sunshine State. Most actors in the film are non actors giving the story a sense of reality and urgency. Willem Dafoe delivers his finest performance in recent memory, bringing to levelheaded, unsanctimonious life a character who offers a glimmer of hope and caring within a world markedly short on both.
Thursday 7:30 PM: Juan Manuel Ochoa
We are happy to have Juan Manuel play for the first time in our colonial house. He will take us on a journey through South American rhythms with a diverse repertoire highlighting the richness of culture in this side of the continent. We are happy to say that we have sold out every concert thus far this year. Remember that your admission fee goes directly to the artist helping them in little ways navigate this crisis. Admission: $8.
All of the events above are with dinner reservations required. We offer Nunkui’s incredible beef tenderloin in our menu and get all of our seafood from CuencaSalmon. We love using all the best products out there. Not to mention that our sourdough comes from PanArte and our bacon from King’s Smokehouse.
