My doctor and my physical therapist recommended I see Jorge Cherrez for orthopedic inserts for my shoes. I expected he would simply adjust my legs with inserts so my hips would be level and I wouldn’t walk with a pronounced limp. One leg is 2.5 cm (almost an inch) shorter than the other.
Senor Jorge made the orthotics according to the order from the doctor but after he put the orthotics in my shoe, he analyzed the way I walk – that the left knee was turning inward very profoundly and wobbling a lot. So, he showed me how orthotics could help my knee straighten out so I could walk without that wobble. He took the inserts he had made and adjusted them so that the knee would be straighter. It isn’t 100% yet, but we are working on that little by little because you can’t change the whole body structure in one session after years of bad posture.
Shoes must accommodate the orthotics – my low shoes could not hold my foot with the insert inside. He had a solution, a sport shoe made in Ecuador that is perfect for my feet and the inserts he made.
I have made a couple of trips back to see him and each time he adjusts the inserts a little so they will work better. He loves his work and he wants to see his patients free of pain and walking normally, avoiding surgery if at all possible. In my case, it will take several more adjustments, but each one is covered in the cost of the “plantilla” insert. He makes prosthetics, wheelchairs, Jewel corsets for broken backs, inserts, and more.
