The actors get the applause. You control lights and sound.
Ever wonder who makes the thunder crack on cue? Who drops the stage to black at the exact right moment? That’s the booth. And it’s a lot more fun than it looks from row 3.
If you can do things like use spreadsheets or book your own airline tickets online, you can learn Qlab, the program theaters around the world use to run lights and sound.
Over two Saturdays you’ll build your own cue sheet and run a real show, start to finish, on ACT’s equipment. You’ll press the wrong button at least once. Nothing will catch fire.
You’ll go home with a printed manual and a fun new skill that makes you feel powerful 😉 and that you can contribute to Ecuador’s only English language theater.
If you like it, there’s a seat in the booth for an upcoming ACT show. You get your name in the program and a complementary ticket.
“Nobody’s grading you,” says instructor and tech wizard, Mike Casto, who will deliver your hands-on training. Mike has led tech on 15 ACT productions and is a career instructor.
