Runa Way Adventours invites you to visit the parish of Jatumpamba, Cañar, known as the Land of the Potters.
Located one hour from Cuenca, the community of Jatumpamba preserves an ancient tradition of ceramic production using the artisan technique called “Huactana” or clay knockers. This technique dates back to the Cañaris, as evidenced by archaeological finds in Azuay and Cañar provinces.
The adventure begins with a hike through the Pichahuayco Protected Forest, a montane forest with native vegetation and beautiful landscapes. We will visit the “Mirador del Cóndor,” a hidden mountain viewpoint offering fantastic views of the Cuenca and Azogues valleys. Then we descend to the community of Jatumpamba amidst fertile corn crops to visit a pottery workshop and see a variety of products made with the ancestral Huactana technique.
