Director’s statement:
Kind of like Already Dead, Chulla Vida started as a class assignment that spiraled out of control. The original assignment was to make a 3-4 minute documentary about anything you want, but you couldn’t shoot any new footage. Let’s just say the professor wasn’t pumped when I handed in a 12-minute cut, but hey, screw him!
It’s a weird feeling to put my dad’s life, but also my life, in such a spotlight. I can guarantee I will regret putting some of these baby pictures of me out there one day. When all is said and done, though, I’m incredibly proud of the move my dad made and everything he continues to do down in Cuenca. I feel incredibly lucky I get to call him my dad.
I hope this story inspires you in some way to live a little larger. When I was a kid and somebody asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I would always say “I want to be like my dad!” I can say that still rings true.
