As the September equinox approaches, something special is taking shape in the mountains of Sígsig, just 90 minutes from Cuenca.
Killa Raymi — the Festival of Mama Killa, the Moon — marks an important turning point in the Andean agricultural calendar.
It arrives at a moment of balance: day and night meeting one another, feminine and masculine held in relationship, one season giving way to another.
Here in the Andes, this is also seeding time.
The earth has been prepared. The rains begin to return. Seeds are placed into Pachamama with the hope that water, earth, time and care will help something small something living.
And within that symbolism is an invitation for all of us:

This September, a Killa Raymi Equinox gathering will take place in the extraordinary ancestral landscape of Chobshi, Sígsig, near the Cueva Negra and Cañari archaeological remains of the Castillo del Cacique Duma.
The day is expected to include ceremony, collective healing with the four elements, Temazcal, time in nature, and opportunities to encounter more of the area’s archaeology, nature and living Andean traditions.
