Come join as we read a Christian classic: The Cost of Discipleship, by Dietrich Bonhoeffer. We’ll meet Tuesdays at 10:30 AM, Flora Caffe, beginning February 24 and ending March 31. This Lenten discussion will include conversation about grace, the Sermon on the Mount, and the challenges and joys of living a Christian life. We welcome anyone who wants to participate, from any faith community or none at all.
Dietrich Bonhoeffer (1906-45) was a German Lutheran theologian who was executed by Hitler’s Nazi government in the final days of the second world war. From the very start of Nazi rule, Bonhoeffer’s heroism is beyond question. He was fully aware of the likely consequences and stood in uncompromising public opposition to what he was seeing happening in Nazi Germany.
Above all, he saw Nazi tyranny as an assault on Christian values and drove a campaign to repudiate the Nazi efforts to co-opt and “Aryanise” mainstream Protestantism and helped to establish the dissenting “confessing church”.
Copies of The Cost of Discipleship are available for $5.50 or can be downloaded. For more information call Carolyn Kennedy, the moderator for the book study: 99 532 4413.
