I was in Ecuador, Cuenca and Santa Isabel to be exact, for my pre-retirement exploratory trip recently. My fear of buses necessitated me hiring a driver for airport/hotel transportation and I am so very glad I did. Not only did it simplify things for me but it also saved my butt! My driver was Edwin Loja and he is great! He’s bi-lingual, an excellent driver (and I do mean excellent as he navigated the Cajas and the rock slides from Guayaquil to Cuenca with ease), he’s funny, helped me with my Spanish, pointed out places of interest along the way, answered all my questions with patience and recommended good restaurants. I used Edwin’s services three times during my visit and I felt comfortable and at ease with him, his prices were very reasonable and he was always on time. Two days prior to me departing Ecuador I was relaxing by the pool, birdwatching and avoiding the news at all cost. Nearing supper time, I checked my phone for the time and noticed I had missed three calls from him. He had been monitoring the situation and told me I needed to get to the airport the next morning or be stuck there indefinitely once they closed the borders and airports. He showed up at 3:00am the next morning and got me to Guayaquil Airport. During the ride, I was stressed but he managed to calm me by pointing out places of interest to distract me and by offering alternative ideas should I not be able to change my flight. He even stuck around the airport for a couple hours till he heard from me in case I wasn’t able to change my flight! Seriously! Who does that?! If you want an excellent and trustworthy driver, contact Edwin. I guarantee, you will not regret it!
