Expats vote in Ecuador, for Ecuadorian authorities.
Hi all,
In order to vote in any election in Ecuador, you must have had your cedula for at least 5 years, even with your visa stamped in the passport or the PDF visa and you you must register to vote with the CNE, the National Election Cousin. You can do that registration anytime in the year. To register to vote you need to go to the CNE office in Loja on Bernardo Valdivieso (or any office of the CNE in Ecuador) across from the SRI office near the main square. You will need to have the following documents with you:
a. A copy of your passport
b. A copy of your cedula
c. A copy of your permanent resident visa (the one stamped in your passport or the PDF of the digital visa)
d. A copy of a recent utility bill showing your location. Can be an utility bill from the place you rent or your own place.
Also you can use a copy of your Municipio-issued property tax receipt instead of a utility bill, but it has to be the one issued by the Municipio, not a receipt from a bank or wherever you paid the tax. It is available online from the Municipio’s website. In this case, Loja Municipality http://facturas.Loja.gob.ec/electronicInvoice-web/public/voucher/creditTitle.jsf
Bring the originals of these documents with you as well, especially your cedula, but don’t show them unless requested.
You will then be registered in the parish you live in, San Pedro de Vilcabamba, Vilcabamba, Yangana, Palanda, Zumba, etc., and can vote there in any election. After the process is done, you can find the place you will vote in https://lugarvotacion.cne.gob.ec/
Also, when any election is coming, the CNE put all the candidates and the C.V. and working plan, into the CNE web page https://www.cne.gob.ec/
The next Ecuadorian elections will be in February 2027, we will have to elect, in a national level: 23 Prefectos (the province authority), 221 majors (221 counties-cantones in Ecuador), Counsels urbans and rurals and Parishes councels and presidents.
