While visiting Puerto Lopez we contracted with Sandra to guide us on a birding excursion in Ayampe, a community a half hour south of Puerto Lopez.
Sandra met us at 6:30 AM and we went to the Ayampe Ecological Preserve to begin our walk through the forest down toward the town. The walk was very easy along a packed dirt road surrounded by the forest which was alive with bird songs and lots of movement.
We say many different types of birds and enjoyed the fresh air, like the Japanese “Forest Bathing”.
Once in Ayampe we went through the village to the estuaries which border the Mangrove outcroppings, and just beyond the crashing waves of the Pacific. There we saw many sea birds, including a Kingfisher.
It was wonderful morning. I totally recommend a birding walk with Sandra.
