Is your pet bored? Acting out is a good sign of boredom. They are intelligent animals, created to enjoy life but if all they get is locked up in a room or apartment while you are away, does that bring enjoyment?
Can you find a way to spice up their life? Hide treats around the room or in a specially adapted feeder. Teach them to do tricks and then practice the tricks with them. Teaching a trick without practice, praise, and treats will make that trick meaningless. Do they like water? Maybe you can play water games with them, especially in hot weather. Use interactive games that release treats or make noises and play with them. Give them variety when they are out walking. Don’t just follow the same route every time every day. Let them investigate along the way, don’t just rush along. Hide treats along the route. If you have a kitty, make sure they have boxes to play with. They love to check inside, find treats and toys, even catnip in a box can bring pleasure.
