It’s really annoying, isn’t it? Your pet just itches and scratches, seemingly all day or all night. Sometimes even causing bloody spots. Why?? Does it have fleas or lice? Ticks? Something biting it? Maybe, but that isn’t always the case. Sometimes an animal develops allergies due to food or environmental conditions. Sometimes dermatitis can be caused by a bacterial or fungal infection or scabies or mange.
But, it isn’t always something physical like that. Sometimes it is stress or boredom and by scratching, it gets you to admonish it and give it some attention. This could be improved by engaging in more activities and exercise. It is always good to note the circumstances. When does the scratching occur? Right after a walk? After eating? at bedtime or during the night? As soon as you sit down in a quiet place? Does it have raw spots on its skin?
Make an appointment to see us as soon as possible to eliminate any of these causes. With a proper history, including if your pet is taking any medicines and what kind of food it is eating, the age and activity level of your pet as well as the physical exam and blood tests, we can help. It may be a process of elimination, just like with humans, or we may be able to determine the cause on our first examination. You should bring your pet to us for analysis and treatment, if necessary, as soon as you notice this behavior or any other abnormality. Call for an appointment.
We offer the best foods available. We also have ID tags, toys, bedding, leashes and collars, carriers, etc. We have a complete pet store in our veterinary office and can deliver, if you request it.
