For anyone thinking of taking Spanish classes here in Cuenca, I enthusiastically recommend Vamos! Spanish School. This recommendation is being offered completely voluntarily, and without the folks at Vamos! asking for one. I’m posting it only because I have been so happy with the classes and teachers at Vamos!
I have taken both private classes and several 6-week-long group classes at Vamos! I’ve had classes with four different teachers at the school, and while Carmen (the owner of Vamos!) is my favorite, each of them has definitely helped me improve my Spanish skills! They’ve all also been very kind and patient.
I also really like that every few weeks, the school puts on a fun educational event and you get to attend these without extra cost. For example, this past Friday, there was a cooking demonstration in which we learned how to make homemade tostones with a delicious peanut sauce.
In previous weeks, we’ve taken walking tours of Cuenca, had a presentation/samplings of Ecuadorian fruits, done a hike with a guide, visited multiple museums, taken a tour of an animal shelter, had a trip to a local mercado, sampled colada morada and guaguas de pan, and watched a film. And every weekend, there is a language exchange which, if you’re interested in attending, allows you an opportunity to practice your Spanish by speaking with native speakers; for this particular event, the school does ask for a very small donation (of about $2).
Finally, it’s always worth knowing when a business is doing its part to try to help make the world a better place, and Carmen, the owner of Vamos!, is an active volunteer with local nonprofit organizations, donating not only money but also her time and bilingual skills to help them achieve their goals.
For the above reasons, I’m delighted to recommend Vamos! Spanish School, and hope this message inspires some more people to give it a try. I think you’ll be very happy you did!
