A man with an imaginary friend that’s a six foot, three and one half-inch rabbit teaches us to believe in the unbelievable. The Pulitzer Prize-winning comedy from the 1940’s was a big hit all over again when it was revived on Broadway in 2010.
Elwood P. Dowd is an affable man who claims to have an unseen (and presumably imaginary) friend Harvey – whom Elwood describes as a six foot, three-and-one-half inch (192 cm) tall pooka resembling an anthropomorphic rabbit. Elwood introduces Harvey to everyone he meets. His social-climbing sister, Veta Simmons, increasingly finds his eccentric behavior embarrassing. She decides to have Elwood committed to a sanitarium, but the results are not what she had hoped for.

ACT’s production of Harvey will feature Bob Hay and Cody Hamilton (of ACT’ s The Prisoner of Second Avenue) as Elwood P. Dowd and Veta Simmons, and Kit Thornton (Trumbo: Red, White and Blacklisted) as the sanitarium director Dr. Chumley. The cast also includes Belen Avila, Larry Bilsky, Christine Hanks, Mary Helfrich, Pamela Phoenix, Saralee Squires, and Robin Tate.
Performances are October 17 and 18 at 2 PM and October 19 and 20 at 4 PM, and are in English. Theater opens one hour before performance times for social hour. Tickets are $15 and may be purchased at http://www.actseats.com
