Today is August 10 – a day when Ecuadorians celebrate the First Cry of Independence of their nation. This year, the holiday is moved to August 11 to give you a 3-day weekend. Some businesses, banks, and government departments will be closed in celebration of the Independence National Holiday. Who was the oppressor? Spain. The year? 1809. This was the beginning of the South American revolt against paying taxes to the Spanish King. The war for Independence would spread to nations that had been conquered and dominated by Spain for about 300 years.
If you are interested in history, you might like to visit some of the battle sites of this war which took years to complete. I can help by driving you to nearby locations on a short day-trip, or driving you anywhere around Ecuador and providing commentary as we progress. I am fluent in English and don’t have to stop thinking to “translate” the conversation in my head. I also know a great deal about my country and I’m happy to share it with you.
Even if all you need is a friendly person at your side to facilitate your Ecuadorian adventure, I am here. I can help with almost everything you might need – from talking to banks to facilitating with lawyers or doctors. I have experience, as you can see by my list of recommendations here and on Facebook.
Call me in advance to discuss your needs and dates.
