Every couple of weeks I come up from Vilcabamba to Cuenca and I am so happy and grateful to get off the shuttle and walk upstairs at the Hotel La Vieja Mission to see Frank Gonzales and crew at Kolo’s Restaurant and Bakery
It’s just so nice to know that I can arrive in town after a 4.5 hour shuttle trip and sit down and be greeted like I just came for breakfast or lunch yesterday! “Good to see you, would you like an iced tea?”
My taste buds really can’t wait to devour whatever speaks to me; breakfast or lunch, regardless the time of day – (i.e. the chicken fried steak, the meatloaf, the American Breakfast and so much more.) By the way, that is a bottomless iced tea. How many places in Cuenca do you know that serve a bottomless iced tea?
The real joy of Kolo’s is the loving, friendly, and family environment that Frank has crafted for us to enjoy day after day! However, this feel-good reality, would not stand if the food and service was not outstanding.
Kolo’s is a perfect storm of atmosphere, great food and awesome service. If you’re new in town, I invite you to meet the Kolo’s crew and if you live in Cuenca, and maybe you have just have been too busy lately and forgot to go upstairs in while.
I invite you to grab your umbrella, your favorite “interesting and chatty friend(s) and treat yourself to wonderful experience and meal and make some new friends.
I will be back in a few weeks and, like clockwork, I will drop my bags at Yakumama Hostel (across the street) or the Hotel La Vieja Mission and walk upstairs for some love, hugs and smiles!
Enjoy the Kolo’s experience and remember Kolo’s is closed on Tuesday.
Take care and many blessings for your peace of mind and taste buds!
