The next meeting of the Cuenca SciFi and Fantasy Discussion Group will be:
* Date: this coming Thursday, July 6th
* Time: noon
* Place: Golden Prague Pub
The book for this month is:
* Titanium Noir, by Nick Harkaway
Nick Harkaway is the son of novelist John le Carré, and has written a number of successful novels in the scifi genre, starting with The Gone-Away World (which I can highly recommend, if you appreciate mind-bending novels). His subsequent books have been equally good but, it must be said, progressively less mind-bendy and his latest, Titanium Noir, is a fairly straightforward detective noir story set in a relatively near future with one crucial scifi development.
For anyone who hasn’t been to the Golden Prague Pub, you can find it under that name in Google Maps. It’s directly across the street from the Supermaxi El Vergel, 2 blocks south of Parque de la Madre on Alfonso Cordero. The place opens at noon — if you get there early, the gates will be closed, but the Supermaxi has a couple of benches outside on the upper level.
Anyone who finds themselves available and wants to show up is welcome. (It’s not at all required to have read the monthly book first, but be warned that its discussion will likely involve spoilers.) This is intended to be a general geek-interest reading/discussion group. Subjects could involve scifi/fantasy fiction and movies, anime, tech, gaming, a book-of-the-month reading, and so forth. Friendly arguments — such as whether The Witcher series on Netflix will be as good without Henry Cavill, or whether or not you should wait until a series is completely written before starting it — are entirely likely.
If you have any questions, feel free to post them below and I’ll keep an eye on this space to answer them.
