Last night we had a lovely opening for the Diversxs exhibition at idiomART. Cuenca artists Ivan Velez and Maria Ochoa were received by many people who truly appreciate their artwork and the night was filled with so much joy and a real sense of family and community.
We realize that not everyone could come to the opening, but luckily for you, the exhibition will continue until Sept. 30, so you can still come by and appreciate the lovely, unique pieces by these two talented artists!
María takes us on a whimsical journey into the magical world of Ecuadorian legend and lore with her handcrafted art dolls, Mampuchos. Each one is unique and shares his or her history and charm. Her art dolls blend fantasy with tradition and her Mampuchos arise like subtle weavers of legends and the artistic threads that come to life. Each one is like a portal sculpted by the hand of its creator, transporting you to both the past and the present between roots and imagination. María’s exhibit is upstairs in the Gershwin Gallery Hall.

Iván takes us on a nostalgic stroll of enchanting colors and textures. He reminds us of how incredible Cuenca is with her textures, majestic trees, colorful flowers, nourishing gardens, and mountains on every horizon. His artwork explores these lively places and impregnates us with warmth and life. His work is characterized by a modern style with cubist elements that capture the magical transition of light at sunrise and sunset with subtle color gradients. These creations will take you on a journey through his childhood, growing up in a family of artists El Vado Cuenca. His exhibition is downstairs in the M.C. Escher Salón de Eventos.
