“Those who know how to weave, know the art of life”
In this Saturday Salon you will have the chance to meet and talk with Mónica Malo, local Cuenca weaver and textile artist, who will discuss Andean textile techniques, the different looms, the process of making yarn, the different world views on designs, shapes, symbols, and uses of Andean textiles that she still uses in her weaving from pre-Columbian times until now. There will also be a Q&A session and Monica will also have some of her one-of-a-kind textiles for sale.
Monica Malo is a renowned Ecuadorian textile artist. She was a CIDAP award winner in 2019 and has been weaving and creating a variety of textiles for more than 30 years. A big part of her work deals with women’s communities all over Ecuador to help uncover and recuperate ancient memories through weaving workshops. Weaving has always been an empowering experience for women. She has collaborated in many textile shows and has broadly exhibited all sorts of unique creations mixing contemporary and aboriginal techniques and styles.
The Salon will be translated by Berenice, Cárdenas. Berenice has an M.A. in Art History from the University of Chile.
