I’d like to recommend a lovely dairy and orchard farm stay outside of Baños de Santa Agua suitable for singles, couples, or families. The forested and pastured grounds are beautiful with a waterfall, trout stream, river, and scenic walks in a rural setting. The 2-bedroom, 1 bath cabin is quite comfortable with a good kitchen, seating area, wood stove, and WiFi. Guests are welcome to harvest fresh produce in the gardens right outside the cabin door or simply sit and admire the hummingbird friendly landscaping. Be sure to bring or pick up a few groceries on your way through town. There is also a weekend restaurant serving traditional foods or cooking up your fresh caught trout on site. The food is delicious. The matriarch even taught me a few traditional recipes.
And while all the above is fantastic and incredibly affordable at only $15/night, the host family makes this stay extra special. They are kind, generous, and eager to make your stay enjoyable. Under the supervision of the adults, my initial hikes were escorted by the children to show me where to find the best places and share the flora/fauna. Watching them play in the waterfall’s lagoon or swinging in the forest was an absolute delight. Various family members shared their extensive knowledge of the surrounding forest. If you want quiet and relaxing, this is a great place. But they have also hosted a group that rappelled down the waterfall! If you want to explore all that Baños has to offer, it is only a 10-15 minute drive from the cabin. Need a ride? Simply ask.
