Joshue has cancer. Now 10-years old, he has been battling this since he was 5. He is not responding well to treatment and has frequent relapses. He is a shy little boy tired from all he has suffered. He loves soccer but 9 months ago had to stop playing. His only wish for Christmas was to have his own soccer ball. tWe cannot cure his cancer, but we can give him all the encouragement and tools to keep fighting to win.
We brought together some of the biggest names in Cuenca for a day he will never forget. On Thursday, he received a personal video message of encouragement from one of his soccer idols. That was a big surprise for him, but more was to come. On Friday, he thought we were taking him to play a little soccer. When he got to the Municipal Stadium, there was a receiving line of hundreds made up of different officials, Cuenca’s Citizen Guard and more, applauding him as he went down the line. At the end, he was met by several soccer teams and was presented a Champion’s Medal by Counselor, Fabian Ledesma, Yadira Palacios, (President of Accion Social and wife of Mayor Pedro Palacios), and soccer coaches. He was given a jerseyttactivities, our students with the home visits, Chris Penny who did the driving, and everyone’s favorttite Loco Canadian, Josh Yetzin.
