…Esperanza (Hope) Food Bank and Soup Kitchen is Cuenca’s oldest and most continuous food bank? Our mission has not changed from the first day we opened in November, 2017. We provide food to the vulnerable and meals to those who are hungry. During the height of the pandemic, we fearlessly continued to operate and provided over 80,000 meals. We are also committed to helping communities outside of Cuenca.
What is the secret of our success? With every dollar we receive from the expat community, we more than double it with support from the Ecuadorian community…which is how it should be. We receive about $4,000 worth of food each month donated from Supermaxi, GranAki and others. We take your dollar and leverage it to receive donations and discounts.
How much more can we do? It depends on you. This Thursday, we will be going to Molleturo to assess the situation for a group of 25 women who have asked us to visit. This Christmas will be difficult for many. Let’s make a difference.
