Charles Schwab and Pichincha ATM Remigio Crespo

Charles Schwab rebates all ATM charges at the end of the month. However, at the end of May, I happened to notice that I was not getting all the ATM charges rebated, specifically Pichincha Bank charges at Remigio Crespo.

Early June, I called Schwab. The rep had no idea why, but was to get back to me in 10 days. That never happened. I called again today as there are more $4.48 ATM fees on my account that have not been rebated for May or June. I could probably search back several more months to find more, but I did not.

Another call to Schwab, this time I was told that the ATMs I have been using are not separating the withdrawal from the withdrawal fee, so Schwab’s system cannot identify the fee. The rep suggested I avoid Pichincha bank ATMs, because he could not be certain if it was isolated to the one branch or the bank overall.

Because I am lax in checking at the end of the month, I cannot say if the Old Town branches were bothersome or not. Either way, I do prefer the other banks with less or no fees.

The clear reason for having used Pichincha was due to my bank rule mind reading skills were malfunctioning, so the problem did not become apparent until I took the time to look over my online statement. I will not in the future having learned from this experience. For the record,... 0 0

I lost $300 several times using Pichincha when their fees were lower. I always got the money back by complaining to my Australian bank and they investigated. Pichincha offered no help. To be fair, other banks do the same thing here. My son in law lost money with Produbanco the... 0 0

Pichincha is the worst they do not code as an ATM fee. I had the same issue with Schwab they credited me the fees but told me they could not continue to do so and to avoid them. I use Banco international ATM’s no fees at all and you can... Read more 0 0

Same, excellent results using my Schwab debit card at the Banco Internacional. They don’t have a lot of branches around town, but one is just down the road from the Banco Pichincha branch you mentioned, Ryan. 0 0

It is strange that in the past, there was not an issue with Pichincha and Schwab. This only seems to have happened since we returned. Lesson learned. Thanks for the other info. 0 0

Actually I had that problem with that combination several years ago. This is not anything new. I simply avoid Pichincha for international ATM -- which is very obviously what Pichincha wants. (based on their reduction of max to $100 and jacking up fees) 0 0

I also use a Schwab card at ATM's so that I can get the fees rebated. I never use any Pichincha ATM's for the very reason you mentioned. 0 0
