What would Cuenca be without the work of renowned ceramic artist, Eduardo Vega?
A major figure in Ecuadorian ceramics, Vega studied art in Madrid and London and ceramics in France. He founded Artesa and created numerous murals, totems and sculptures. In 2024, he was honored for his contribution to Cuenca’s cultural heritage.
We will begin this tour with his very first mural, created in 1969 for the El Dorado Hotel, when he was still completely unknown—a truly fascinating story!
Then, we will discover five more of his monumental works, tracing the evolution of his style and techniques over the years.
Finally, we will head to the Vega Gallery, perched on Turi Hill and surrounded by stunning views. The gallery also showcases the work of Eduardo’s son, Juan, and granddaughter, Martina, both ceramists with very different styles.
A unique opportunity to discover three generations of ceramic artists—and perhaps take home some beautiful ceramic pieces.
Please note: The first part of the tour is on foot through downtown Cuenca (about ¾ mile). We’ll then take a taxi to the gallery in Turi and return by taxi. The drop-off point is Colegio Benigno Malo (Avenida Solano).
