We’re excited to welcome you to our new idiomARTE house!
September 3 will be our first public event in the new space, kicking off a series of smaller openings leading up to our Grand Opening on September 19.
We’re starting with StoryJAM: Healing Through Community, featuring internationally recognized artist, poet, musician and community activist Charlotte Hill O’Neal, affectionately known as Mama C.
Mama C. is a former member of the Kansas City Chapter of the Black Panther Party and has lived and worked in Tanzania for more than five decades. There, she and her husband, Pete O’Neal, co-founded the United African Alliance Community Center in Arusha.
Mama C. is currently in Cuenca for an intensive healing residency through the International Welcome Center’s Heal, Together program. She will open the evening by sharing what has emerged from her healing process. we’ll be there to listen and witness her sharing before moving directly into StoryJAM’s open mic.
StoryJAM is our monthly storytelling night, where people share their own stories around a different theme each month. This month’s theme is Healing Through Community, with Mama C as our featured storyteller and Barry Callen and Diana Moscoso hosting the open mic.
Bring a story of your own, or come simply to listen. StoryJAM is in English and a welcoming opportunity to practice your English while sharing stories and listening to others.
