There are lots of good reasons not to go to church like growing Christian Nationalism, coercive indoctrination, churches being more focused on their own needs than those of the community, the sordid history of abuse long associated with the Christian church, people’s tendency to be unwelcoming or un-inclusive or hyper-judgmental at church.
That said, if you think participating in a church is something you’d like, if only you could find a local church that meets your needs, let me offer the following strengths of St Timothy Episcopal Mission (STEM) here in Cuenca:
Inclusiveness: Stem is inclusive of anyone who wants to be inclusive. This is a core value of the Episcopal Church because we believe everyone is welcome at the table and we believe in civility and community.
Quality services: Good music, great messages, amazing snacks. SCEM isn’t a glitzy packaged product like you’d find at so many American mega-churches, it is genuine and thoughtful. We’re a small congregation…but we are growing with people just like you!
Open-mindedness: Our members have a wide variety of beliefs and if you’ve got more questions than answers (like me), you’ll be good here.
Mission-mindedness: We are very committed to helping those less fortunate in the Cuenca Community. We support Compassion Kitchen, the Cuenca Foundation, and Crea tu Espacio This is a good place to dedicate your resources, to find ways to do community service, and to expand your thinking about the difference you can make.
Connectedness: You will find people really belong and make great relationships here.
We would like to welcome you to join us on Sunday afternoons at 2 PM, we are located at Bartolomé de las Casas y 5-34 Tirso de Molina
