A couple of years ago I fell on wet, slippery tile, and immediately became almost totally helpless for 8 months. My entire left side was badly damaged. Upon returning from the hospital I could only sit all day and be put to bed at night. When finally being able to walk again a permanent cane became necessary. I cannot leave home without two people to brace arms above the elbows. I am only one of the countless; some injured no doubt have died. My 45 year career of helping the under-privileged and countless others has been removed.
As widely reported in Cuenca news, due to the numerous significant safety hazards, slips, and accidents sustained falling on wet tile, upon the direction of our mayor, the city is now removing said dangerous tile beginning in Parque Calderon, and replacing it with “non-slip material commonly used in historic Ecuadorian spaces”– that is not slippery when wet.
A million thanks Mayor Christian Zamora!
