If you’re not familiar with Hogar Miguel León, it has been in existence for 150 years and currently houses 19 girls between the ages of 3 and 17 as well as 35 elders. The seven nuns work tirelessly to provide for the people who live there providing them with shelter, clothing, food, education, health care and stability.
The building is an ancient patrimonial house that is constructed mostly of wood. The city, rightly so, has mandated that the building is in need of a fire prevention system throughout. Considering how old the building is, a fire would be an unspeakable tragedy. The estimated costs for these repairs is $300,000. It involves an enormous amount of retrofitting and re-wiring. Currently, the sisters are doing repairs in increments as they have funds available.
This is a dire need and something that needs to be addressed immediately. If you can help, please contact me at the email below and I will provide you with the banking information for contributions. Any amount is greatly appreciated.
