Letters from Literature
A creative writing workshop in English
Writing a letter is a way of calling something into presence — a person who once was, someone who never arrived, a version of ourselves we are still trying to understand.
In this creative writing workshop, we will explore the letter as both an intimate gesture and a literary form. Through selected readings from Anne Carson, Sylvia Plath, and Ocean Vuong, we will consider how writers give shape to what feels difficult to articulate — desire, grief, longing, devotion, memory.
Drawing from poetry and short prose, participants will write their own letters addressed to a lover, a parent, a city, a body, a past self — even to a dog, a cat, or anything that demands to be spoken to. The emphasis is not on grammatical perfection, but on discovering how language can hold emotional and intellectual complexity.
You don’t need flawless English. You need a voice. The rest, we build together.
