In recent months we met a very wonderful Ukranian family that has chosen Cuenca as their home after leaving Ukraine. Vera and Ruslan have a table at Sabatino’s Feria where they sell delicious Ukranian and Russian delights.
I have purchased the wonderful homemade Salguni cheese that originates from the country of Georgia. It is similar to string cheese (if you’re from the US) with a slightly salty taste. It’s delicious by itself or on salads or pastas.
They also make and sell delightful snacks, such as Kazinak, which is a natural candy made from sunflower seeds, honey and sugar. Another snack is peanuts in salted caramel. Crunchy roasted peanuts are coated in caramel where sweetness and salt support each other. The flavor is rich, full-bodied and lingers pleasantly.
This Saturday, Vera Ruslan will be offering an apple pie and charlotte cake that will be sold by the slice for $1.50 or $12 for the whole cake. Please come out to Sabatino’s and give this beautiful family and hand up (instead of a hand out). You won’t be disappointed. There are also many other incredible vendors there, so come, enjoy!
