Recently my wife and I had the pleasure of vacationing in Puerto Cayo. This was our first trip to the Ecuador coast. Spectacular, exceeded all our expectations. Don’t forget a day trip to Los Frailes Beach national park just down the road.
A very comfortable bus ride from Cuenca to Guayaquil. After arriving in Guayaquil take the bus (Reina del Comino) to Jipijapa. Stay on this bus until Puerto Cayo. 2 buses, easy peasy, 7.5 hours total. We left Cuenca at 7 AM.
Highly recommend: the banana bread vendors sell on the bus to Jipijapa as well. You can buy a slice or the whole loaf. Of course, I went all in.
Puerto Cayo people were warm and welcoming. My favorite eats included Cabaña Roja Pizzeria, El Dorado seafood, and Dolce Perla (coffee’s and out this world handcrafted ice cream).
