Our first Cultura Viva Spanish course of 2026 invites you into the world of Andean myths, legends, and oral traditions, exploring the narratives that have shaped cultural identities in Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia.
Through creation stories, ancestral deities, sacred landscapes, and local legends, we will examine how Andean cultures understand nature, spirituality, and community, and how these worldviews continue to resonate in contemporary life.
The course draws on Inca mythology, legends surrounding Lake Titicaca, Ecuadorian stories connected to volcanoes and historic cities, and regional traditions from Azuay, Cañar, and Morona Santiago. Participants will identify shared symbols and regional variations, reflect on their cultural significance, and create an original myth or legend as part of the learning experience.
The program concludes with a special session led by guest speaker and local historian Berenice Cárdenas, exploring the influence of Andean myths in contemporary culture, art and everyday life.
