Hi, I’m Jerry Price. I handle certain aspects of Star Singer’s publicity. In a sincere offer to make friends, and in the spirit of good will, sometimes a little vignette and its potential amusement makes for a visit to a singer’s show. Thus, a little remembrance.
Christmas time, when Star Singer was living in New York many moons ago, he was walking around Soho just for the heck of it. Still drifting, now in the lower east side section of Manhattan, he found himself looking up at a great big colorful banner hanging from a brownstone that read: “Joseph Papp’s Shakespeare Festival”. The doors were wide open, the finest Christmas decorations had created a mesmerizing wonderland, and the laughter of fabulous fun-loving people beckoned – Oh, come right in and enjoy yourself and the holiday fun! So, Star Singer went in.
The bartender smiled big and handed Star Singer a glass of wine. Just when Star Singer had spun around to take in the merriment at the Christmas party for the members of “Festival”, he found himself among the many revelers who were all clapping and cheering because a grand lady had just made her entrance. The lady’s name is Maureen McGovern. The applause had subsided. Although, the excitement remained. Ms. McGovern sang, a Capela, to everybody’s delight. The song she sang was from the 1972 film, The Poseidon Adventure, called, “There’s Got To Be A Morning After”. What thrill! It was a great moment! ###
