Are you looking for a church where all are welcome?
There are lots of good reasons not to go to church, like growing Christian Nationalism, coercive indoctrination, churches being more focused on their own needs than those of the community, the sordid history of abuse long associated with the Christian church, people’s tendency to be unwelcoming or un-inclusive or hyper-judgmental at church.
That said, if you think participating in a church is something you’d like, if only you could find a local church that meets your needs, let me offer the following strengths of St Christopher Episcopal Mission (SCEM) here in Cuenca:
Inclusiveness: SCEM is inclusive of anyone who wants to be inclusive. This is a core value of the Episcopal Church because we believe everyone is welcome at the table and we believe in civility and community.
Quality services: Good music, great messages, amazing snacks. SCEM isn’t a glitzy packaged product like you’d find at so many American mega-churches, it is genuine and thoughtful. We’re tiny, we only have about 40 members…but we are growing!
Open-mindedness: Our members have a wide variety of beliefs and if you’ve got more questions than answers (like me), you’ll be good here.
Mission-mindedness: We are very committed to helping those less fortunate in the Cuenca Community. We support Compassion Kitchen, the Cuenca Foundation, Hearts of Gold, Crea tu Espacio and GRACE (Give refugees a chance) This is a good place to dedicate your resources, to find ways to do community service, and to expand your thinking about the difference you can make.
Connectedness: You will find people really belong and make great relationships here.
We would like to welcome you to join us on Sunday afternoons at 2 PM. We can be found at Bartolome de las Casas #5-34 T Tirso de Molina
