We never want to think about surgery – for ourselves or for our pets. But sometimes we cannot avoid it. Here are some general instructions to prepare your pet for surgery:
Fasting is usually required 8-12 hours before the surgery – ask your vet to be sure.
Do not stop medications or administer medications without authorization from your veterinary.
If your pet needs a bath, do it the day before surgery because after the surgery you will not be able to bathe for a while.
On the day of the surgery:
• Calmly bring your pet to the vet to avoid stress.
• Be sure to bring the medical history with you so that we know the status of its health and most recent vaccines.
• Make sure you tell the vet of any symptoms, changes in behavior, or other changes prior to the surgery.
After the surgery:
• Set up a quiet place for rest – a place without excessive noise and where there won’t be a lot of visitors. Observe the pet but don’t disturb it.
• Follow all the instructions post-surgery carefully – administer medicine, provide food and water, take care walking the dog, etc. according to directions.
• Be alert: If there is any sign of pain, vomiting, bleeding or inflammation – contact your vet immediately.
Our team of experienced veterinarians has many years working with large and small pets. We always look out for the best interest of the creature. In addition to surgery, we also offer you food, clothing, bedding, carrying cases, and medications for your beloved. We can deliver if you request it.
Contact us today to set up an appointment to assure your pet has the best care available. It is always best to have regular check-ups rather than wait until a problem develops.
