I have been a solar installer in the US for 20+ years. For some time, I have been looking for a reputable solar company in Cuenca to assist with some elective projects. I interviewed 3 companies but found them all inexperienced. After the blackouts, I decided to import my own equipment from the US for the installations. Then I stumbled on the Cuencan solar company, Ilios.
Run by a Spanish-trained renewable-energy engineer, Santiago, I was pleasantly surprised that he spoke the same solar tech language that I did (in both English and Spanish) and that Ilios had completed about 60 installations in and around Cuenca, including commercial ones.
He provided a free quote and was transparent about the equipment, specifications, and prior warranty work his company provides. A scant week after his quote, he and his crew completed a complete solar electric installation for a home in Cuenca (panels, hybrid inverter, lithium batteries, and transfer switch) and turned the system on. Since then, this installation has supplied 100% of the electricity needed for this home.
More than reducing CentroSur bills, it also ensures that the home will have no outages if another energy crisis leads to future power issues. After this initial investment, all future electricity generated is free, so worries about diesel pricing and pollution are also resolved.
The quote I received for all equipment, installation labor, and a 12-month warranty came in at a fifth of what I charge for similar US work. Further, compared to the US equipment I install, the equipment provided by Ilios is as technologically advanced and even superior in some ways (ie, Tesla and Generac).
If you own or build property in Ecuador and are looking to upgrade your electrical systems for complete energy autonomy and independence, I recommend Ilios without qualification.
