Would someone explain vehicle registration, please?

I just moved to Ecuador this week and am looking to buy a vehicle. I’ve learned that with a passport and money, I can purchase a vehicle, but I’m unsure about how vehicle registration works here. It will be a few months before I have a Visa, Cedula, or an Ecuadorian driver’s license. I’m wondering if I will be able to register the vehicle and get license plates to legally drive it. Thank you for the help.

I had a facilitator with me who took me from office to office on the grounds. Once I went through the initial process, the following year, I was able to pay someone to do the annual inspection after I paid for all but one fee online. It was worth paying someone else. Also, when I did not see an overhanging piece of cement in our garage, I got a gash on my door. Emilio took it to a guy and the work was perfection. I highly recommend Emilio Morocho cuencacarshare@gmail.com. Read more 0 0

We are doing our matriculation as we speak. How is your Spanish? If it is not so good, I would suggest that you contact a facilitator to do it for you. (There is a man who advertises on here.) If it is not so good, I would suggest that you contact a facilitator to do it for you. (There is a man who advertises on here.) In a nutshell, you log into a website, and you will see a list of fees to be paid. We are able to pay all but 1 of the fees online with an Ecuadorian debit card only. The remaining fee (the largest amount) must be paid at Pacifico bank. As the fees are paid, your checklist items will be marked as completed. After all of the fees are paid, you can then schedule an appointment to have your car inspected and get your windshield sticker. There are 2 such facilities in the area. Typically, a new car will come with free matriculation for the first year. They do all of the steps. We’ve bought 2 new cars here. Used cars are another beast, and as Don mentions below, it’s buyer beware. I don’t know about registering without a cedula. Read more 0 0

Yes you will be able to register the vehicle with a passport. Do your due diligence, though. Lots of scams going on down here. Get some help, check the plate for multas, and above all…..make sure you get the actual matricula……the plasticized green registration card. 0 0
