Sweet Sasha is ready for adoption
IMG 8954

Meet Sasha!

Sasha was found living on a riverbank and took refuge under a bridge where she was in great danger and suffering from hunger and cold. The inevitable was near: her first heat, and with it, the birth of several puppies with an uncertain future. Sasha was rescued by a loving person and now faces a much better future that you may hopefully be part of.

Sasha is a beautiful, medium/small dog (about 28 pounds) who has been spayed, vaccinated, and dewormed. She is almost a year old, house-trained and gentle with children, cats and other dogs once she gets over a little shyness.

If you would like to arrange a meet and greet with sweet Sasha or have any questions, please contact Vivi Calle.

This is the same dog that belonged to a man (presumably her owner) that accompanied her everywhere...he also lives along the riverbank. Many people fed this dog everyday... 0 0

A New Year Message from “Izhcayluma Eco-Resort” in Vilcabamba

Dear Friends,

As a new year begins, we would like to take a moment to thank you for being part of the wider Izhcayluma family.

Many of you have chosen Ecuador not only as a travel destination, but as a place to live and make your new home. We are very grateful that Izhcayluma is one of your favorite vacation destinations close to Cuenca, a small paradise to slow down, reflect, and reconnect with what truly matters. We see Izhcayluma not merely as an eco-resort, but as a quiet refuge in these restless times: a place to pause in nature, relax, and enjoy simple human presence filled with laughter and joy.

Over the past year, we have been grateful to welcome members of the Expat community from Cuenca and beyond….some for short stays, others for longer visits and most of you returning again and again. Your appreciation for simplicity, sustainability, and genuine connection resonates deeply with the spirit in which Izhcayluma was created over 25 years ago and has been lovingly maintained under the same management ever since.

In the year ahead, we remain committed to:

– preserving this land and its biodiversity, a sanctuary for wildlife and humans alike
– offering a calm, respectful space free from noise and excess
– supporting practices that nourish body and mind
– maintaining affordability and authenticity over luxury or spectacle
– keeping it personal……you know….old school

Whether you visit us for a few days of rest, pamper yourself at our Tropical Garden SPA, a yoga retreat, or simply to enjoy the view and the birds at sunrise, you are always welcome here.

We wish you a grounded, clear, and healthy New Year.

Big hug from Vilcabamba

Peter, Dieter and Raik

New Spanish Courses and Programs

We are happy to announce our New Spanish Courses and Programs for beginners, intermediate, and advanced levels. Schedules available in the mornings and afternoons. There’s no time limit now because we know that learning a new language is a process that requires time and practice. If you only study grammar and don’t practice, you’ll only progress 30%, but if you study and practice, you’ll reach 100%.

Our more than 30 years of experience as certified teachers and creators of language programs and courses allow us to confidently affirm that practice makes perfect.

At EQUINOXIO, you will not only learn, but above all, understand and speak Spanish, because we are simply a “LIVING LANGUAGE.” Through dynamic classes, guided tours, cultural, academic, tourist activities, and especially through physical and visual contact with our local people, you’ll experience a wealth of culture, traditions, and customs that have made this city a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999.

Courses are offered individually, for couples, and in groups.

Option 1: 2 hours per day, 10 hours per week; total 40 hours per month.
8:30 to 10:30 AM, 10:30 to 12:30 PM, 3 to 5 PM, 4 to 6 PM

Option 2: 3 hours per day, 15 hours per week; total of 60 hours per month.
9 AM to noon, 3 to 6 PM

Option 3: 4 hours per day, 20 hours per week; total of 80 hours per month.
8:30 AM to 12:30 PM 2 to 6 PM

When you study with us, you also get to participate in completely free activities such as: cooking classes, cocktail making, dance classes (salsa, merengue, bachata, and tango), city tours, yoga, and language exchange.

CLASSES START IN JANUARY 19, 2026 and all year long!
