What if we could see the world differently?

Nature, culture, and the ways we live are deeply interconnected. Abya VIVA is a collaborative learning program that creates opportunities to explore these relationships, learn from different perspectives, and investigate how shared knowledge can help us respond to real-world challenges in Ecuador.

• Learn by exploring, exchanging, and doing.
Through guided sessions, individual exploration, and fieldwork, participants examine challenges from different perspectives and learn through direct exchange with community members.

Together, they develop and test practical responses to what they discover.

Each edition concludes with a forum where participants share their findings, reflect on what they have learned, and consider possibilities for future action.

• This edition: The Comuna Marcos Pérez de Castilla Conservation Area.

What can we learn by exploring the relationships between people, nature, and culture alongside a community deeply connected to its territory?

In this first edition, you will connect with members of the Comuna Marcos Pérez de Castilla, a community that manages and protects more than 8,600 hectares of Andean highlands, native forest, and water sources in southern Ecuador.

Together, we’ll explore the local environment, the changes affecting it, and the challenges facing the community. By combining local knowledge, scientific research, and lived experience, we’ll investigate questions that matter and explore possible responses. Community members will be active partners throughout the process, helping shape the research and what comes from it.

Abya Viva is guided by Diana Moscoso Lazo; researcher and consultant specializing in socioecological regeneration, intercultural mediation, and territorial governance from Cuenca, EC.
