A problem about which some expats contacted me: their cedulas are near to expire or expired and some problems arises.
1. The cedula is linked to the bank, credit unions accounts and it is not possible to withdraw money with the expired cedula. But, you can use the ATMs with your debit cards. Now, if your debit card is near to expire and your cedula no, renew your debit card before the expiration date, so, you will be able to withdraw money from the ATMs anytime, even if your cedula is expired.
2. Before your cedula expires, go to the bank and request the change from the cedula to your passport number, at least until your cedula is renewed.
3. If you try to buy a property or a used car, with your expired cedula, better use your passport.
4. If you receive the IVA back, no need to do anything, the process is registered and even if your cedula is expired, you will continue receiving the IVA payment back.
5.- To renew the cedula, a “cedula order” is needed, can be requested online, but the process now, online, can take 3 to 6 months…
