After watching many YouTube channels on houseplant care, I decided to overcome my black thumb and try to care for plants again. The recommended substrate ingredients for DIY potting mix were daunting! Vermiculite, pumice stone, coco fiber dehydrated bricks, pine bark, Leca, (called arlita here), worm castings (closest here is humus de lombriz). Would I find everything at Coral or Kywi or would I have to visit many nurseries with my limited Spanish? Luckily a Google Maps search found Sustratos Ecuador.
The website, https://sustratosecuador.com/shop/ lists substrates in stock, but he will make a special order, in my case, sphagnum moss rubio to fill moss poles. It’s best to place your order directly via WhatsApp. Be patient, he’s a one man operation, he doesn’t speak English and will deliver in the early evening.
Also a shout out to Vivero Mestiza in San Joaquin for their factory second pots at crazy low prices.
